Meet the Coach

David, originally born in Guatemala but raised in the United States since the age of three, discovered his interest in boxing at the age of 12. Motivated by a desire to boost his self-confidence and defend himself against larger bullies at school, he persuaded his father to enroll him in boxing.

Through unwavering commitment and hard work, David unearthed a natural talent for boxing, turning the sport into both his passion and way of life. Despite the allure of weekend socializing, he remained dedicated to his training, eventually realizing his dream of becoming a champion.

In 2002, at the age of 26, David achieved the title of 'North American Boxing Federation (N.A.B.F.) Champion' in his weight division. His journey involved years of perseverance, dedication, and navigating the complexities of the boxing world. Upon his retirement, he held the champion title, ranked third globally, and stood as the top contender in his weight class.

Currently, David boasts more than 32 years of active involvement in the Houston area boxing scene, with 17 of those years dedicated to coaching. In his role as an amateur coach, he has achieved remarkable success, fostering the development of over 30 regional Golden Gloves champions, securing two Golden Gloves state champions, and cultivating two fighters who reached the prestigious #2 ranking in the USA amateur boxing division.
